When it comes to reining and cutting, author, trainer, competitor, judge, and Hall of Famer Al Dunning has ‘dun’ it all. When Al talks about his journey from riding horses in the suburbs of Chicago to being named Western Magazine’s 2017 Horseman of the Year his passion for horses, dedication to the sport, and family are crystal clear.
Al enjoys spending time with family and friends at Almosta Ranch in Scottsdale Arizona as well as hitting the road to show and teach clinics worldwide.

One of the most respected horsemen in the industry, Al Dunning is a legend in the western performance horse world. He has trained multiple world champions in Reining Cutting and Working Cow Horse division and he and his students have won 48 World and Reserve World Championships in the NCHA, AQHA, NRCHA and the NRHA. Al is best known for his success on the AQHA champion, Expensive Hobby.
In addition, to his continuing competitive success Al is NCHA judge and a well-respected author.
